The story of his immigration is passed on from an Italian grandfather to his granddaughter as they examine his matchbox diary. Because he was unable to write, the grandfather saved keepsakes from his life to help him recall important moments, like his arrival on Ellis Island. Readers will be inspired to start their own diaries as they look at the beautiful illustrations by Bagram Ibatoulline and are transported to a different time by author Paul Fleischman. Reserve a copy of "The Matchbox Diary" by Paul Fleischman at your local library! Meet the new Wilbur: She's small. She's spunky. She's strong. She's Flora! Flora the pig starts her life on a boring farm stuck in a pen with her mother and brothers. She's not satisfied with her dull days, so she seeks out adventure with the help of a couple of feline mentors. With the new motto "Nine lives is a state of mind," she's soon on her way to the South Pole. Will she achieve her dreams of joining the dog-sled team or will the humans in her life find another tasty job for her? Read The Adventures of a South Pole Pig by Chris Kurtz to find out! It was such a pleasure to meet so many members of the Primrose Hill Community today. I was thrilled that families took the initiative to visit the library media center where their children will be learning to ask and answer questions about the world, in addition to obtaining resources to encourage their love of reading. I look forward to getting to know all of you better as the school year progresses. Thank you for such a warm welcome! Andrew Churches of Educational Origami has an answer.
